With the last month of the school year comes a very contagious disease called end-of-the-year-itis and even the more dangerous form of the disease eighth-grader-itis. Most of the middle school has it and it is not even May yet! Even right now The Chunky Chimichanga is suffering from the symptoms, and therefore has to push to right this. The Chunky Chimichanga just realized that in writing about the laziness symptom, he just wrote more than he would had he not wrote about it.
Symptoms of end-of-the-year-itis include but are not limited to: 1. Out of the usual laziness. 2. Extreme sleepiness. 3. Walking out the door with a swimsuit on, only to realize its fifty degrees outside. 4. Taking naps at sport practices. 5. Out of the normal laughing attacks. 6. Writing about end-of-the-year-itis. 7. Extreme zoning out. 8. Wanting the year to be over. If you have any or all of these symptoms please build yourself a time machine and take the middle school with you to the beginning of summer. Mr. Bradley used some really big words to describe it and the only thing The Chunky Chimichanga can understand was laziness and wanting the year to be over. -The Chunky Chimichanga

A swarm of monkey cavalry riding on cows with the banana swords riding into the depths of the dark rhino controlled jungle. Who knows the weight of fear these monkeys face as the travel where few monkeys have been before. – Five Star Banana General Ooh Ooh Aah, in a fake letter to The Chunky Chimichanga. Well that had nothing to do with this but it sure got your attention.
Before spring break we had the Science Fair. Congrats to Chris who won first place. Unfortunately that week was also the week when everyone was sick. We had a judge come out from Lutheran High where all the eighth graders will be going. As we return from spring break and Easter we are in for a long stretch to the end of school. We are in the process of getting back into a routine and back into shape for most of the track runners who didn’t run over break. Also we are working on getting the musical together now that we have all the parts assigned. The end of the year might seem like a quarter a way (which it is) but it will go by fast. Let’s start off the fourth quarter with a good start with grades. -The Chunky Chimichanga Hello miniature bumblebees of Shepherd of the Hills! On Monday February 22, 2016, the Shepherd of the Hills Spelling Bee took place. Fifth through eighth grade took part in the Spelling Bee. Although, fifth-sixth grade had their own and seventh-eighth grade had their own. This year, lots of people got out during the first round in both grade groups. Nathan Wohletz was part of the people who got out during the first round. He said, “I wish I didn’t add an extra ‘L’.” Some people made it past the first round like Peter Schallenmuller. He said, “I think it was a fun experience to be a part of. However at the same time it was a little unfair because some people got hard words and others got easy words.” Well spoken. Although it’s supposed to be fair, some people do get easy words while others get hard words. It’s very similar to the episode of the TV show Ned’s Declassified School Survival Guide. Moze and Cookie would get the really hard words and choke, but Ned would get very easy words including “dog” and “cat”
The victors of the fifth and sixth grade Bee was Erin Kaelin and Reilly Saline (but actually Reilly Saline) and the victors from seventh and eighth grade are Lara Seitz and Joey Rasmussen. The Spelling Bee for the seventh and eighth graders was a hard fought battle between Joey and Lara. It went into about five extra rounds and Joey prevailed. All of the winners from each age group will go to St. John’s on March 1, 2016. Thanks for listening to my words. Have a stunning day! - The Electric Snowman Hello secret pandas of Shepherd of the Hills! In November, the eighth grade class took part in writing an essay about what freedom means to them. Those essays were then sent to SERTOMA (Service To Mankind) to be judged for a winner. After somebody from Shepherd wins, they receive one hundred dollars and a trip to a luncheon where they could then win the district and win three hundred dollars. Jenna Brewer was the winner from Shepherd of the Hills this year. She not only won out of everyone from the school, she also went on and won the Front Range District! Congratulations Jenna! She was so very excited that when they called her name to receive the award, her chair fell over. Luckily she caught the chair before it hit the ground. When asked about how she felt when she won the award, Jenna said, “I don’t know…It was cool.” She sounded very excited. When Mr. Bradley was asked about how he felt when Jenna won the award, he said, “I was very proud of Jenna.” With Jenna winning the Front Range District, this the second time someone from Shepherd of the Hills has won. The first winner from Shepherd was Joseph Casey in 2005. Have a stellar day!
By: The Electronic Snowman Hello undercover bananas of Shepherd of the Hills! As you probably know the talent show happened on Friday January 29, 2016. Many people took part in the show. Cameron said, “The fourth grade class is doing the Star Wars song with boomwhackers.” That was very fun and entertaining! The Schulteis family did a band type of thing to patriotic songs. Thomas was on the piano, Julia was on the flute, and Andrew was on the drums. That was a great showcase of talents.
As always there are two emcees for the talent show. Since our two Hall of Fame emcees – Sawyer Benson and Mark Suter – have left, we had to get Joey Rasmussen and Jenna Brewer to take their place. Mr. Bradley said, “I loved to see them do that. They are both very talented individuals.” Nathan Wohletz said, “Joey isn’t even going to be there!” He was very misinformed. Although, there was a boys Varsity basketball tournament at Zion in Brighton the night of the talent show so Jenna had to do it by herself. She took on Joey’s role by putting a bandana on her head and changing her voice. The talent show is always a great showcase of talents. If you’re looking for some quality entertainment next year, stop by Shepherd of the Hills for the annual talent show. Have a day that is very up to snuff! - The Electronic Snowman The girls running club is made by the 2nd grade teacher here at shepherd Mrs. Poppe. It is for 8-12 grades and girls only. They run at DeKoevend park and they run about a mile. Some of the members of the girls running club are Mrs. Poppe and some 8th grade girls and some people in high school. They run about a mile and then pray for each other. And then the members of the Girls Running Club go home. Then they meet again next Saturday at 9:00. I’m sure Mrs. Poppe would be happy if you are a girl and are between 8-12 grades Mrs. Poppe you can talk to her and I’m sure she would be glad to have you. After they run their mile they pray for each other and other people. I think this is a good idea because it can boost the confidence of the girls when they pray for each other.
The Girls Running Club is held every Saturday at 9:00. They do the same routine every Saturday run a mile, then pray for each other. This is an awesome thing to do for the girls of shepherd of the hills and for girls in high school. Written by: Peter Schallenmuller and Brandon Krikke Recently the teachers announced that the lockers are required to have school issued locks. Previously there has been a mixture of school locks and locks people have brought from home. Now all of the locks that are used for lockers with school related items inside must have a school issued lock. This announcement effected many people throughout the middle school. John expressed feelings of frustration about the sudden lock change. He says his new lock combination is more complicated and harder to remember than his previous combination. He wishes he could of kept his old lock. "It's a bad idea." Jaina said "They should have told us at the beginning of the year. That way we wouldn't have wasted money on buying our own locks." Erin K. is upset about the surprising change. She has to relearn her code and get used to the new combination. Some people have a different opinion. Abbie S. doesn't think it makes a big difference. Her new code is easy, the only problem she described was that her new lock was a different sort of lock than her old one. A week ago locks were a mix of silver, black, purple, blue, gold, and pink. Now all the locks are the same. This event did not effect everyone in the middle school, but the people who where involved in this change had diverse feelings depending on the difficulty they experienced as a result of this new rule. Brandon Krikke 11/11/2015 One of the most anticipated assemblies of the year is coming up in less than two weeks, at Shepherd of the Hills. The Raptor Assembly is a group of people who come into schools and teach the students about the different birds from the wild. These birds are all rescued and cared for by a raptor organization, and then rehabilitated to hopefully be returned to the wild. Last year, they brought in an American Kestrel, a Great-Horned Owl, a Golden Eagle, a Falcon, and a Turkey Vulture. The favorite of the school seemed to be the Golden Eagle. We learned that the Golden Eagle will pick up sheep or goats and drop them off cliffs, and then eat them. Golden Eagles can range from Mexico, Western North America, Northeast North America, Canada, Asia and Europe. The Turkey Vulture that was brought in was hit by a car, eating road kill. Most of the birds that come to the center cannot fly, such as the Great-Horned Owl had a broken wing. The organization works with these bird to bring them back to health. The Raptor Assembly is coming to Shepherd of the Hills School on Monday, November 30. Look for more information coming next week. Something New: Electives
