We have some new faces at shepherd. A new first grader, Gia, fifth grader Cameron, and a sixth grader Bella. From what The Chunky Chimichanga can see they have made a very good transition.
With the musical coming in fast the middle school has been working on it. In art with the miniatures out of the way we have been taking measurements of the stage to prepare the scenes. Some people had the mind numbing task of calculating the area of the stage. The Chunky Chimichanga even with his love of miniatures thinks that we should’ve started earlier because we only have a month. Plus we only get art, music, and drama on Wednesdays. The actors have gone through four scenes two of them should be already memorized and they just walked through another scene today. With fifteen scenes total to do The Chunky Chimichanga hopes we get the props, the stage, and the actors prepared for the play which is May, twentieth. After the monkeys had defeated the gorillas in the battle you heard last week. The gorillas had an offer to the monkeys that they would ally if the monkeys helped fight in their war with the Ninja Pandas. The monkeys who were once enslaved by the Ninja Pandas and eager for revenge swiftly agreed. The gorilla-monkey alliance would soon fight their first battle as allies. Due to the amount of facts I have to have with in ratio of monkey stories I must continue the Ninja Panda war in smaller parts next time. I wish I could write more about the Ninja Pandas. Hopefully this paragraph counts as facts. -The Chunky Chimichanga

Yesterday, the middle school went on a field trip to the Nature and Science Museum. The middle school had to solve a mystery to save a scientist that had been poisoned. We were the quickest group to solve it and the middle school was complimented on how well they worked together. After they had completed the mystery they were allowed to tour the museum. During the tour Nathan Wohletz was freaking out because of the third floor mostly because he is scared of heights. Being a non-heights enthusiast, The Chunky Chimichanga sympathizes with Nathan Wohletz. Now to our weekly news about monkeys, another tale from Five Star Banana General Ooh Ooh Ah. As the monkeys cleared the dark forest full of rhinos the monkeys began to celebrate when the evil dragon riding gorillas came from above. Five Star Banana General Ooh Ooh Ah ordered the legendary cry “Ahhhh Ahhhh ooo Banana Bang!” which in our language means get the air defense systems in place. Just as the dragons began to open their mouths to breathe fire on the helpless monkeys a bunch of rocks flung up from the catapults and knocked the dragons off balance forcing its gorilla rider to jump off. - The Chunky Chimichanga Hello tired zombies of Shepherd of the Hills! During the last full week of February, the students here from Kindergarten through eighth grade participated in the Iowa Test of Basic Skills. For some people standardized testing can be a really stressful activity. Taking tests can last a little bit more than an hour each day. If you struggled with stress with all of the tests, the Electronic Snowman has some tips for you. A nice thing to have during tests is mint flavored gum. Studies show that gum, especially mint flavored, help stimulate your cognitive senses. In other words, it helps you think better. Another way to help relieve the stress of all the testing is to bring a good book or two to indulge you into when all the testing is done. That’s also a good way to pass the time if you finish your test early. An amazing way to relieve stress is to get a couple extra hours of sleep each night. That way when you sit down to take your test, you’re refreshed and ready to ace it…or make a cool design with the bubbles. Well, I hope these tips will help all of you tired zombies blossom into beautiful butterflies for testing. Have a marvelous day.
- The Electronic Snowman Hello sneaky sasquatches of Shepherd of the Hills! Recently, the break period for the middle school has been compromised. They are now spending their break period outside which basically now serves as another recess with snacks. The middle school students have been enjoying it a lot. The Chunky Chimichanga said, “I like it. We get morning recess again!” Abbie Voytko said, “I like it. It’s fun. It’s fantastic.” Some of the teachers even like it. Mr. Bradley said, “I like it. It gets you guys moving, and you get to see the sun.” Even the “sixth president” of the United States had some input. George McHenry, “I think in high school we should also have morning recess.” I personally like that the middle school students now have break outside because no matter what age you are you should be able to go outside, play with your friends, and have some fun. I know that some people will say that there is already a recess after lunch, but sometimes that’s not enough. A short twenty minute recess period isn’t enough for people who need to be outside and run. It’s also never a bad idea to be outside in the sun and get some Vitamin D. Have a tip-top day! -The Electronic Snowman Hello secret zombies of Shepherd of the Hills! Valentine’s Day is nearing as it is four days away. Usually Valentine’s Day is when we give candy to the other people in our class which is always fun. If you don’t want to make all of your Valentine’s Day “presents”, candy grams are available for purchase before and after school hours. I was even thinking of buying one for myself because they look so very delicious. There will also be class parties to celebrate the holiday. They will take place on Thursday and Friday. The eighth grade class gets to leave campus for their parties so they’re taking a little field trip to Yogurtland. I asked a couple of middle school students if they are excited for their Valentine’s Day party. Jenna from eighth grade said, “I guess so.” Abbie from sixth grade said, “I’m sooo excited” and then she laughed like a schoolgirl. I also asked Mr. Bradley if he was excited and he said, “I can’t be excited because we don’t actually have one.” I personally am not a big fan of Valentine’s Day. It is just a scam made up by our friends at Hallmark to sell more cards. Anyways, thanks for reading and I hope you have an exquisite day!
-The Electronic Snowman By the title, you might be freaked out and think that we aren’t ever going to have Christmas Break again. Don’t worry we will still honor Jesus’ birthday. Although at the moment, Christmas break has come to a close and school has started back up again. That’s been hard on me for sure. I was used to waking up at 11:00 AM everyday over Christmas break, and now I have to get up four hours earlier for school. I’m sure this non-sleep disease has spread across the school to people who sleep in as late as me such as the Chunky Chimichanga. He said, “It’s affecting me very badly. I’m turning into a monkey.” This sounds like torture! Having to wake up at 6:00 has caused Nathan to slowly lose his mind. If you are having trouble waking up for school, I came up with a few phenomenal ideas to help you get up for school on time. One method is to set your alarm really loud so you’ll be scared awake. Another is to go to sleep earlier so you have a full night of sleep. Although, the best method that I’ve done is setting your alarm earlier than you intend to wake up so you have more time to roll around in bed thinking about how much you wish you didn’t have to go to school. So go on and use these methods as you try to beat the non-sleep disease. Have a rad day!
-The Electronic Snowman Recently we did Operation Christmas Child. We used shoe boxes to make gift boxes. Many people donated items like hygeine products, blankets and warm cloths, and toys. Toy include small cars, balls, stuffed animals, yo-yos, jump ropes, small etch and schetch, slinky, hard candy, lolipops, mints, gum, tshirts, socks, sunglasses, hairclips, toy jewelery, watches, pens, pencils and sharperner, crayons, markers, stamps and ink pad, writing pads or paper, coloring books, picture books, shoe boxes, wrapping paper, and cash for shipping.
“I think it is a good idea because the who don’t get presents will finally see the glory of the christmas presents and God!” said Avery. We had a contest to see which class could collect the most items. “I think it’s a good idea but I don’t like the competion.” says Emily of the human intrest group. “I think that this is a good idea to share with the needy,” says Peter of the human intrest group. “I think it’s a good idea because kids need to learn what Christmas is really about!” says Jade of the edit tourials group. “ I think this is a good idea because we can share the joy of christmas with other children not just through the presents but through giving as well.” Says Christina of the edit tourials group. It’s good to share even in a small way like this. By: Jade, Avery, and Christina Friday
Canvas and Cookies painting for fun vs Frozen turkey Olympics competing in the Olympics(turkey style). Canvas and Cookies or Frozen Turkey Olympics what should the middle school pick? “Avery explains I really like the Frozen Turkey Olympics but I have never been to Canvas and Cookies so I guess I like the Frozen Turkey Olympics more.” Cooper says,” I like the Frozen Turkey Olympics more because you can be active and run and compete I like the frozen Turkey Olympics by far.” A lot of people think different things. Some people have never been to either of them. But most 6th graders think Canvas and Cookies is better. Cayleigh, Erin, Abbie, Anna, Jordan, Brandon and Emily want Canvas and Cookies. Canvas and Cookies is painting and eating a lot of Cookies yum yum. The turkey Olympics is the Olympics with Turkeys you have a turkey dinner then you go and find A bigger turkey and then you wrap it up in tape. Then you go bowling and flinging it and relays with it. But both are really fun. Even though it is over next year will come and then we can try it again. The End By Avery Buss and Jade Mazzoni , Christina Hoener, Cooper Morton Grandparents day is coming up super fast. At Grandparents day we are planning to make food baskets for the needy but we still need more food. The sixth grade was thinking that if we each bring food we will probably have enough for some food baskets. But we need more help from other people outside of school. “I think that this is a really good idea and it could really change lives,” says Avery. “I think that that helping people is really cool idea and a great way to show Christ working in us,” explains Jade. “Honestly I think that this is a good plan. If we can show Christ others will come and meet Jesus too. Those who can be saved should be saved even if they have money or not. The truth has to be told and not hidden. For many people who do not have money they starve everyday and they have to steal to get food. They need to know about Jesus and we can show them,” said Christina. “I think we need to share in the wealth of other people!” says Peter of the human interest group. It’s an ok idea”, says Cayleigh. We all want to help and we all care and we all want to do everything we can because Christ did that before us. “ I think that it is a really good idea because people need to think about other people who don’t have as much as us”, Anna tells us. “ I think it’s an awesome idea because the people in need, need a lot of help and they can’t provide for themselves”, explains Abbie. We care and want to help everyone we can so help to donate. By Avery Buss and Christina Hoener Next year the school board is talking about using uniforms. Our group is against this idea. We do not think our school is an academy because the school is not. If someone wants a uniform go to Sky view or somewhere else. Ms. Jennings (our principal) it is up to her to make the decision. It could be next year it could not happen at all. People sometimes do not wear dress code. We could not do anything to stop it but our principal can. We don’t like the idea some people well a lot of people hate it. All though it would be a good idea in a way if it is a Friday shepherd shirt and custom shorts I would like it. “I think this is the worst idea in the world and I hate it” from Andrew. “Our school should not do it” from Jordan. “EEWW! Like my opinion on the Raiders” said Peter “They are terrible burn it!” from Brandon. “I would hate it” said Emily. “No” from Christina. “Stupid” Chance. “I could go any way it is good by having what we wear now but the same thing every day is not the best idea some people take advantage of the dress code and that is where the idea came up from” From Mrs. Jennings. Most our school does not like this idea.
